‘Women, minorities still being discriminated and deprived of opportunities

Experts from the government and various social sectors have said that the state still discriminates against women, janajatis (indigenous nationalities), dalits, Muslims, Madhesis and people from backward communities.

Speakers participating in an interaction organised by Dalit Sewa Sangh in the capital on Thursday further added that these people and communities are deliberately being made to lag behind socially, culturally, economically as well as politically.

“Despite being equally competent, talented and capable, women, dalits, janjatis, Muslims, Madhesis and people from backward communities are being deprived of various opportunities to prove their caliber,” they said.

Also speaking at the programme, Rudra Singh Tamang, Joint Secretary at the Ministry for Federal Affairs and Local Development, stressed on the need for government offices including various institutions and organizations to engage in proper planning and policy formulation to improve their relationship and behavior with traditionally deprived communities.
