125th Birth Anniversary of Babasheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Celebrated in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, April 14- Synchronization of Law and Media for Social  Development (SLAMSH Nepal ) and LANCAU Nepal jointly organized an interaction program at Nepal Law College to mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of architect of the Indian Constitution, philosopher, activist and leader Babasaheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar in the capital today.

The keynote speaker of the program Constitutional expert Dinesh Tripathi said:

Professor Amartya Sen has called Ambedkar his Guru, this reflect what a towering personality Ambedkar was. While well known elite nationalist like Gandhi and Nehru led the struggle for political freedom  from British rule, Ambedkar fought a correlated but different struggle, one for the most oppressed sections of the society. Ambedkar’s nationalism focused on the building of a nation, on the creation of social equality and cultural integration in a society enslaved for centuries by the unique tyrannies of  caste and Varna ideologies. Ambedkar envisioned an India based on the values of liberty, equality and fraternity. This is reflected in the Constitution drafted by the visionary Ambedkar. His life and work is relevant not only to Nepal or India but world over.

Speaking on the occasion Executive Director Prabhakar Bagchand said’:

Ambedkar Jayanti is a celebration for human dignity. It’s a celebration of human values that Ambedkar fought for.

Ambedkar was not only an architect of the Indian Constitution but a philosopher, activist and a global leader. He not only interpreted the world but aimed at reconstruction of the world by abolition of exploitative structures. Annihilation of caste speaks volume about how far sighted Ambedkar was. It is unfortunate this text has been ignored. Ambedkar is beyond caste, beyond geographical boundaries this has been proved by the fact that Ambedkar Jayanti is being celebrated at UN today for the first time with focus on combating inequalities to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It’s a matter of coincidence, one can see the trace of Babasaheb’s radiant vision in the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the U.N. General Assembly to eliminate poverty, hunger and socio-economic inequality by 2030.

Chairperson of SLAMSH Nepal Mr. Dipak Parajuli welcomed the participants, and Ms. Karuna Adhikari facilitated the interaction.

The program was organized at Nepal Law Campus more than 50 peoples including students and teachers participated in the interaction.

In solidarity

Prabhakar Bagchand

Executive Director
